MediaSmart Libraries: Navigating Our Digital Lives: In School and Beyond

  • Saturday, March 19, 2016
  • 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Barrington High School Library, 220 Lincoln Ave., Barrington, RI
Parents and educators are invited to join experts in a conversation around the powerful yet oftentimes ignored topics of privacy, safety, digital citizenship and more!

As digital devices in schools are becoming more prevalent, the shift to a new model of education is underway. In this uncharted territory, our understanding of privacy, safety, and how we interact online is more important than ever. All community members are invited to explore these topics with stakeholders including tech experts, administrators, teachers, parents, legal counsel and others. Participants will join the discussion and leave with information, support, and resources to help them navigate through these critical issues. Please pass this information on to parents, staff colleagues and friends. It is free and open to the public. Registration information forthcoming.

The Media Smart Libraries program is building partnerships to support children in a digital age. Through workshops and public events such as this, we hope to increase the awareness of the importance of digital and media literacy skills of children, families, and the community and the role libraries can play in making this happen. We are proud to partner with EdTechRI, an organization that promotes learning in an unconference format. This project was awarded to the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies at URI and was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Grant # LG-07-14-0045-14
